[Tubefilter Charts is a periodic rankings column from Tubefilter with data provided by GospelStats. It’s exactly what it sounds like: a top number ranking of YouTube channels based on statistics collected within a given time frame. We use data directly from YouTube and in terms of subscribers, YouTube rounds that data to the first three significant figures. In our ranking of the most-subscribed YouTube channels of March 2025, all of the top 100 channels gained at least 1.1 million new subscribers over 31 days. MrBeast got about 11 times that amount, but who’s counting?

You don’t have to be MrBeast to secure a spot in the Global Top 100 — you just have to be a short-form star with an eye for trends that are easily translated. More than 80% of the channels in this chart operate primarily on Shorts, so if you haven’t yet given YouTube’s TikTok clone a shot, now’s a great time to do so.

Catching strays (the good kind) on Shorts

Moralistic content is huge on YouTube, with creators like Dhar Mann teaching young viewers how to do good. That genre typically utilizes straightforward themes with clear-cut good and evil characters, so that the lessons can be imparted to as many cultures as possible.

Ben Meryem is one of the creators who is part of that movement. The Türkiye-based creator has received millions of views with videos that deliver simple morals to more than eight million total subscribers. Sometimes, the lessons imbued in his videos are as simple as “laughing is good.” In other cases, he implores his viewers to eat healthy. But his most successful Short, at least in terms of raw viewership, is a clip that advises people to “think of stray animals” by wrapping up loose shards of glass before putting them in the trash.

Ben Meryem’s thoughts on animal welfare helped him make his first appearance in the Global Top 100 during the third month of the year. That’s when he added 1.15 million new subscribers while bringing his lifetime YouTube viewership above 5.2 billion.

How much of Meryem’s growth can be attributed to his love of animals? Since the advent of YouTube Shorts, everyone from Ohio Cat Bombastic to Fady FILY has found a way to repurpose YouTube’s oldest trend (its community’s love of furry friends) for one of its newest formats.

Sometimes, those short-form videos get a little weird. BabyDuck, which reached 48th place in the U.S. Top 100, surged forward by providing some of the strangest animal Shorts on YouTube. I don’t know if anyone asked for “Squid Game, but with rats,” but at least the little rodent can break the rules of the game without getting shot.

Before long, YouTube Shorts will be a menagerie full of the internet’s most bizarre animals. There will be rats, cats, and dogs (oh my!), and given recent happenings, they’ll probably all be playing Squid Game together.
