Sphere Entertainment Co. will launch The Wizard of Oz at Sphere this August, marking the $2 billion arena’s first foray into licensed content.

The show will be based around the original 1939 film, in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery as well as technology partners Google and technology and experience firm Magnopus. Besides bringing technological upgrades to enhance the original film, little is known about planned productio, with company officials hinting in a statement that “The Wizard of Oz at Sphere will maintain the integrity of the original while pushing the boundaries of Sphere’s experiential medium.”

Sphere officials also announced the launch of From The Edge in 2026. Directed by Academy Award winners E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, From The Edge will profile five outdoor athletes known for embracing extremes, includes free diver Alenka Artnik, skier Markus Eder, rock climber Alex Honnold, BASE jumper Katie Hansen Lajeunesse and surfer Kai Lenny – and take audiences inside the world of extreme sports.

Participating athletes were filmed on location using Big Sky, ”Sphere Entertainment’s proprietary camera system developed to capture images at the scale and fidelity necessary for Sphere’s display,” according to a release announcing the project.

From The Edge is produced by Vasarhelyi, Chin, Evan Hayes, Callum Greene and Little Monster Films. Executive Producers are Anna Barnes and Nick Martini. Wizard of Oz at the Sphere is produced by Academy Award and Emmy-nominated producer Jane Rosenthal with visual effects from Ben Grossmann, editing from Jennifer Lame and creative direction from Zack Winokur.

Since opening in late 2023 with U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere, the domed desert entertainment complex has mostly played host to concerts with engagements from Dead and Co., the Eagles, Phish and Backstreet Boys, as well as the nature documentary Postcard From Earth. Shares of Sphere were down 6.85 percent following the news, likely a result of continued selloffs in the equities market in reaction to President Donald Trump’s trade policies.

“Our goal for The Sphere Experience is a diverse slate that leverages Sphere’s power as an experiential medium,” Jim Dolan, executive chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment said in a statement. “The Wizard of Oz at Sphere and From The Edge will push that vision forward in different ways.”
