Outerwear trends are abundant in the fashion world. Used as an outfit anchor or a forgiving veneer, the right jacket effortlessly communicates a sartorial point of view, pushing your look in a desired direction. No wonder we find ourselves collecting so many! The inspiration for fashion’s latest outerwear obsession, however, is somewhat unexpected. Many of the jackets seen on the spring/summer 2025 runways seemed to be ripped straight from the world of sports. Windbreakers, anoraks, soft shells, and zip-ups were everywhere, poised to dominate 2025.
In Milan, it was game on for the sporty staples. Prada showed bright anoraks with shiny, silver dresses, while Bottega Veneta paired soft bombers with smart tailoring. The trend continued in Paris, where at The Row a black windbreaker contrasted a simple pair of white slacks, and at Miu Miu, colorful track jackets were featured in a number of our favorite looks. Daniel Lee and Maximillian Davis, of Burberry and Ferragamo, got in on the game too. (A guide on how to recreate our favorite sports-inspired looks from the season can be found here.)

What we love about the sporty jackets trend is the combination of practical functionality and stylish versatility. When worn with tailoring or a feminine skirt, a windbreaker or anorak adds a level of in-the-know contrast, but these pieces will look just a cool in your off-duty ensembles. And they’re available at a range of prices—you’ll find great options at activewear giants like Nike and Lululemon, alongside the designer buys that reimagine classic silhouettes in luxurious fits and fabrics.
