Ione Skye confessed it’s not easy getting older.
The “Say Anything” star talked about how, despite always feeling comfortable in her body, things suddenly changed when she turned 54.
“It’s hard, it’s so hard,” she exclusively said for Page Six’s “Unforgettably Famous” series.
“Like, this year is probably the hardest because I felt so great for so long and I look amazing. And this year, I started feeling, ‘Oh boy, this is going to be hard.’”
The “River Edge” actress explained that, as women get older, they are told they will “accept” themselves and “don’t care as much.” However, it wasn’t like that for her.
“At the same time, you’re thrown with, ‘OK, so now I have to apply this not caring so much about the changes in my body, in my face,’” she described, adding that her move to Sydney, Australia, made things even harder for her.
“It’s kind of Los Angeles [which] is very active and healthy, but Sydney feels like it’s even more in some ways,” she noted. Skye moved to Australia with her husband, musician Ben Lee, whom she married in 2008.
Despite finding it “difficult,” Skye has managed to come to terms with her aging, thanks to her active lifestyle.
After noticing the weight gain that naturally happens as a person ages, she said, “I’ll just exercise more — it might not make me lose weight, but I’ll feel healthier. And that’s been helping.”
Amid her struggles, Skye is also trying to be kind to herself, “have compassion and just be happy and healthy.”
She added, “I also feel like ‘Thank God, I’m healthy right now.’ I’m just trying to do what I can. It’s a whole minefield, but I’m trying to just have a good attitude.”
The “Say Everything” author also spoke to Page Six about her relationship with Beastie Boy’s Ad-Roc (real name: Adam Horovitz), whom she was married to from 1992 to 1999.
“I was just too young to be in a real marriage, although I wanted to [be],” Skye — who was just 21 when they got married — said.
“I loved him and I loved being married, but I wanted to see if I could do both,” she explained, referencing her multiple affairs. “Can I have this security, my best friend, my husband, [but also] be a college person who wants to experiment and go out?”
Despite contributing to their marriage’s demise, Skye admitted to Page Six, “[I wish] he was still in my life as a friend or something because it was like losing a family member when we split up.”
