Karen Huger had a special message for her husband, Ray Huger, after being sentenced to serve a year behind bars at her DUI sentencing on Wednesday morning.
In a series of updates shared from the courtroom, an insider revealed what the Real Housewives of Potomac star, 61, “yelled” to Ray before beginning her jail sentence, detailed Ray’s testimony and claims about their kids, Rayvin and Brandon, and explained the rules for her potential appeal while also sharing the judge’s reaction to Karen’s past DUI offenses as another source confirmed the terms of Karen’s probation.
“As Karen was being taken into custody she yelled, ‘Love you Ray. GOD’s got you. You’ll be alright. GOD bless you,’” Taria Faison, the host of What Else is Going On Podcast, revealed in a post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, on February 26.
The Weigo Podcast host also offered several other updates on her X account, starting with details about Ray’s testimony at Karen’s hearing.
“Ray said the kids are a little hurt by this. Her Lawyer asked if Ray was aware of everything that Karen has done in the last few months (to get help). He said yes. He told the judge Karen is doing very well and has recovered from the accident. And Karen is crying,” Taria revealed.
According to Taria, Karen apologized for bringing her case to trial and admitted she was arrogant to think she could handle her alcohol.
As for Karen’s appeal, Taria noted that the RHOP star had 30 days to appeal the judge’s decision and 90 days to ask for a reconsideration of her sentence.
In another set of messages, Taria revealed that the judge shaded Karen’s rehab choice, suggesting that it was more of a luxury getaway before giving her hell about her past offenses.
“The judge said how about a program [without] a summer connotation!” she wrote, adding that he accused Karen of “working the system.”
“All warnings went in one ear and out the other but she remained undeterred!” Taria shared. “The judge said Karen is no stranger to drinking while driving on our roads When she got a PBJ in 2007 one would think Ms. Huger learned her lesson. In 2008 [before] the ink was dry on the other one, she was arrested again. He is not playing!!!!”
“The prosecution isn’t really buying the reason given for Karen choosing that recovery spot!” she continued.
As Karen’s legal team insisted she was a “good person” who’d been “gracious” through the experience, requesting a suspended sentence with nothing more than probation, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings, and other conditions, he didn’t bite, choosing to instead sentence Karen to more than what the prosecution recommended.
In another report shared by FOX 5 DC on YouTube, a reporter was seen outside the courthouse, sharing even more details about what went down.
According to this second source, Ray also testified that Karen was a good person and had worked hard in recent weeks to make good on what happened. Meanwhile, Karen told the judge she was sorry, insisting that her DUI was a wake-up call and claiming she was determined to focus on her sobriety, attend AA meetings, and be an advocate against drunk driving in the future.
Amid the testimonies, the judge signaled Karen’s four past offenses in the last 17 years and asked if he should wait until her fifth. He then reportedly sentenced her to around $2,900 in fines and five years of probation.
Karen will also be barred from driving for a year. And once she’s allowed to get back behind the wheel, she will have to install an interlock device in her car to ensure she won’t be driving intoxicated.
Upon hearing her sentencing, Karen didn’t give much of a reaction, nor did she look at Ray during his testimony until it was complete.
Also during the hearing, as revealed by FOX 5 DC, the judge blasted Karen for her treatment of the officers who responded to her DUI crash. In response, her lawyer handed the judge one-page letters for each of the officers, apologizing for her behavior and thanking them for their service.
The Real Housewives of Potomac season nine reunion concludes Sunday, March 2, at 8/7c on Bravo.
