Dorit Kemsley called out Kyle Richards in an interview this week, describing her as “nasty” and “mean” for downplaying their past friendship and teasing a big reunion update about their current status.
While also looking back at her comments about Paul “PK” Kemsley, 57, and his alcoholism and admitting to facing hardships amid their separation, the 48-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star revealed her favorite storyline of season 14, confirmed who she’d like to return, and reflected on Kyle’s statements about their relationship.
“It was nasty. It was mean and it was really hurtful, and I think that’s why I had such strong emotions with regards to our friendship and my feelings about it, because it didn’t feel consistent with the friendship I’d been made to believe we shared,” Dorit explained during a March 19 interview with Interview magazine.
After hearing what Kyle, 56, had to say about their apparent lack of closeness, Dorit said she went into production on season 14 feeling like she had “nothing to lose.”
“It was like, ‘Hello, I care about you, this is a real friendship for me. If it’s not for you, that’s okay, but don’t expect me to pretend that it’s a real friendship because right now I’m living very much in truth.’ And I think that resonated well with the audience,” she shared.
While Dorit and Kyle have continued to go back and forth on recent episodes, Dorit confirmed fans would be getting a definitive answer about their status when the reunion airs.
“After the reunion, there is absolutely no doubt which way we go,” she hinted.
According to Dorit, season 14 was a return to form for her.
“When you’re in a dark place and you emerge from that, you know you never want to go back there. You want to eliminate all of the toxic sh*t in your life, and you have to be strong and you have to be resilient and you have to be very clear and concise. And I think that’s what you saw this year,” she explained. “You’re navigating that alone, having ups and downs in your marriage and being on television.”
Although Dorit mentioned that she and PK were “very amicable and friendly” before filming began, she admitted that being open about her separation “caused a lot of issues.”
“I think that PK struggled with watching some episodes,” she shared, adding that PK thought he’d have more support from viewers.
“Regardless of whether we end up getting divorced or whether we reconcile, it’s incredibly important that we have peace and a relationship, because we have two children,” she continued. “I don’t look at him as my enemy, and there’s no reason for him to look at me as his enemy. He knows what I signed up to do, and he’s been a big supporter of it. In fact, it was him that pushed me to do the show eight years ago.”
Looking back at the events of the season, Dorit said she wasn’t trying to “get him” or “expose him.’
“[With] the alcoholic thing, people had a strong reaction to it. It was the first time that I had ever spoken about PK’s drinking, and it was with his support. I had asked him, ‘What are you comfortable with me sharing?’ And he was already public about his journey of sobriety,” she confirmed.
As for her favorite storyline, Dorit said she loved seeing the home transformation of Erika Jayne, 53.
“As her friend, it was really lovely to watch her emerge from such a dark place and not only be coming out the other side, but to be in a space that was reflective of her future and not her past,” she shared.
She then revealed who she’d bring back to RHOBH if it were up to her.
“Oh, god. Hands down, there’s no question, I would have Lisa Rinna back,” she declared. “I was brokenhearted when I found out that she wasn’t coming back. I called her crying. She still remains one of my closest friends. I love and adore her. I think she got a little bit of a bad rap, but I know how much she gave and gives and how wonderfully fabulous she is and I’d just love for her to come back.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 14 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
