Keke Palmer claims “Scream Queens” co-creator Ryan Murphy “ripped” into her for taking a day off from filming the show.
The Nickelodeon alum, who starred in the Fox horror series for two seasons, recalls the allegedly contentious conversation with the TV writer in her forthcoming memoir, “Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative,” set to be released on Nov. 19.
Palmer writes in her book that she had received the show’s shooting schedule and made other plans for a day she had off, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Production later altered the schedule and told the “Nope” star that she would have to be on set, but she chose to honor her prior commitment, which left a bad taste in Murphy’s mouth.
“It was kind of like I was in the dean’s office,” she remembers, claiming the director “ripped” into her.
“He was like, ‘I’ve never seen you behave like this. I can’t believe that you, out of all people, would do something like this.’”
Palmer, 31, explains that she apologized to Murphy, 59, and believed they were on good terms until an unnamed co-star addressed her a few days later.
“I said, ‘Ryan talked to me and I guess he’s cool, it’s fine,’ and she was like, ‘It’s bad,’” she writes, speculating that the castmate was “trying to make” her “scared, which was a little irritating.”
The “Hustlers” star says she understands Murphy was just focused on his business, explaining that she hopes the “American Horror Story” co-creator now sees her “as a business,” too, since she stood her ground.
Palmer starred on “Scream Queens” from 2015 to 2016 alongside Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Elsewhere in her book, the actress alleges that a white co-star from the same show, identified only as “Brenda,” once made a racist comment toward her, per the LA Times.
Palmer explains that Brenda was in a disagreement with another actor, so she attempted to ease the situation by telling her colleagues to “have fun and respect each other.”
“‘Keke, literally, just don’t. Who do you think you are? Martin f–king Luther King?’” Palmer claims Brenda told her.
“It was such a weighted thing that she said, but I didn’t allow that weight to be projected on me, because I know who I am,” she writes.
“I’m not no victim. That’s not my storyline, sweetie. I don’t care what her ass said. If I allow what she said to cripple me, then she would.”
Reps for Murphy weren’t immediately available to Page Six for comment.
